Our Pastor

Fr. Efrain Martinez was born in the municipality of Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico.  His parents are Delfino Martinez Franco and Maria de la Luz Franco Gonzalez, both deceased.  He is the 10th of 12 children in his family.  Fr. Efrain grew up in a faithful Catholic family, celebrating the faith in different ways daily. His father was a farmer and owned a small family dairy.  Fr. Efrain's mother was a homemaker, who dedicated herself to the family. At the age of 19 Fr. Efrain came to California.  He worked for Zacky Farms in Dinuba while he went to school to learn English.  He was a member of a parish choir at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Dinuba.  After a few months of being in the choir, he and a few friends started the parish Spanish speaking youth group.                                           Fr. Efrain was accepted into the English as a Second Language (ESL) diocesan program to begin his formation as a candidate for Holy Orders in 1994. He then went to Mount Angel Seminary College, in St. Benedict, OR in 1995, where he graduated in 1999.  The Fall of 1999 Fr. Efrain went to The Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH.  After two years there, he transferred to St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, CA.  He was ordained to the transitional diaconate on November 22, 2003; Fr. Efrain graduated from St. John's Seminary in May 2004.  He was ordained to the priesthood on May 22, 2004.  His assignments as priest have been: St. Joseph Church in Los Banos, once the parochial vicar and later as pastor; St. Joseph Church in Firebaugh; St. Joseph Church in Selma and now Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hanford.

 El padre Efraín nació en el municipio de Arandas, Jalisco.  Es el décimo de doce en su familia. Sus padres fueron Delfino Martínez Franco y María de la Luz Franco González, finados.  Creció en un ambiente familiar en el que se celebraba la fe diariamente de diferentes maneras.  Su papá fue campesino y ganadero y su mamá ama de casa.  A los 19 años de edad el padre Efraín emigró a California y trabajó en Dinuba. Fue miembro de un coro en la parroquia de Santa Catalina y posteriormente fue co-fundador del grupo de jóvenes La Luz de la Esperanza en la misma parroquia. En 1994 comenzó los estudios como candidato al Orden Sagrado en la Diócesis de Fresno y posteriormente curso sus estudios de filosofía en el seminario de Monte Angel en Oregón. Ingresó al seminario en Columbus, Ohio en 1999; después continuó los estudios teológicos en el seminario de San Juan en Camarillo, CA. Fue ordenado diácono transitorio el 22 de noviembre de 2003 y posteriormente fue ordenado sacerdote en mayo 22 de 2004. Su servicio como sacerdote ha sido en las parroquias de San José en Los Banos donde sirvió dos etapas, San José en Firebaugh, San José en Selma y ahora en el Inmaculado Corazón de María en Hanford.
